Monsanto CEO Salary

Interesting finds:

  • Base salary increases steadily, while bonuses increase or decrease dramatically. This could be due to the fact that bonuses can be claimed as tax-exempt salary, while base salary is held to state and federal tax policies.
  • 2008-2010 was a time of economic recession in the U.S. The CEO took quite a generous pay cut from 2008 to 2010, going as far as not getting a bonus in 2010. However, 2011’s salary was nearly equal to pre-stock market crash’s 2008 salary. Grant’s bonus is decreasing again – what does that mean?

Questions left unanswered:

  • Why has the bonus amount been decreasing since 2012? Does this have anything to do with their stock price or annual revenue?

Additional information

  • No stock investments were included in this study; only base salary and Monsanto’s “Non-Equity Incentive Plan Compensation”, which means bonus for meeting or exceeding annual performance standards.
